Permanent Partial Disability Ratings

When it comes to your workers compensation case, many people are not aware that after they complete treatment and are released from care they can obtain a permanent partial disability award. This award, also known as a PPD award, is based upon the percentage of impairment that remains after all of your treatment has been completed.

Many people who have had surgery as the result of an accident-related injury are automatically entitled to receive a PPD award.

PPD awards are a function of three factors: your income, your age, and your percentage of disability. Make sure the workers compensation insurance carrier has the proper information regarding your wages and wage loss. They may be using incorrect wage information. You may also be entitled to a higher disability rating that what the rating doctor gives you. Usually, your percentage of disability is a range of possibilities, for example 10 to 13 percent. Going from 10 to 13 percent may require that the doctor should have asked you quality of life questions.

These types of decisions should be appealed in order to fight for a higher percentage of disability. The result could mean a higher PPD award.
